Older workers, with just over a month to go, don’t just plan to vote—get involved!
There are approximately two million people aged fifty and above in British Columbia. They represent a powerful force in this election; older voters consistently show up at the polls, so their voices—and their concerns—shouldn't be ignored.
The government needs to take the lead in creating a more age-friendly workforce by prioritizing policies that support those older adults, who may also be workers, and encourage businesses to do the same.
It's time for our leaders to challenge biases and fully recognize the value that older professionals bring to the table. The increased participation of older workers isn't just a trend—it's an opportunity we can't afford to overlook.
Call to Action
Older workers, make your voice heard by asking candidates for their answers to these important questions:
What will you do to create more job opportunities for older adults in BC?
How will you support ongoing training and development for them?
What steps will you take to combat age discrimination in the workplace?
Will you promote flexible work arrangements for older employees?
How will you help businesses accommodate older workers?
Older workers, let’s ensure you're not just seen, but valued, supported, and given the opportunities you deserve.
I've sent the same questions to the Vancouver Province newspaper and plan to ask them of candidates face to face at a meeting in October. Let's hope they have strong answers!
